In recognition of Children and Youth in Care Day, Youth Civics Day 2018 will be held Monday, May 14th. The Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies has joined forces with the Ontario Child Advocate’s Office to commemorate this significant occasion by co-hosting this fun and educational day. Format will be switched up this year, thanks to the provincial election. A new location – Toronto City Hall – will replace the Provincial Legislature, allowing for an open, creative, and hands-on experience!
This year, a key feature of the day is the ‘Get Out and Vote’ campaign for voting-age youth and future voters alike, in partnership with Elections Ontario. The Child Advocate, Irwin Elman will also lead youth in a conversation to reflect on the many advocacy achievements by youth in and from care during his eight-year tenure. Other guest speakers and presenters will also promote a broad understanding of civic engagement, advocacy and activism through interactive, non-partisan, equity-focused activities centering on issues that youth care most about.
