Imagine if youth were viewed as competent community builders. With this idea in mind, former young people who had lived in foster or group homes in Nova Scotia supported the development of leadership programming for youth in care. Destination: UP (Unlimited Potential) operates numerous outdoor and leadership experiences which help young people identify their needs and assets in order to make positive contributions to their community. Under the guidance of the HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development, organizers are working to ensure that this type of programming is embedded into care plans for Canada’s 76,000 young people in care.
